I was signing one of my kids up for an activity recently, and it should have been a simple yes.
The plan was about $400 in classes. I had already looked through the details, my child was excited, and I was ready to commit. I got all the way to checkout and then, right at the finish line, everything changed.
Over $150 in extra fees popped up.
There was a registration fee. A service fee. And somewhere along the way there had been mention of a costume fee that wasn’t even included yet. At that point, I had no idea what the actual total cost was going to be, and I definitely didn’t feel confident that I had the full picture.
So I closed the tab and walked away.
It wasn’t even about the extra $150. If that had been the true price from the beginning, I probably still would have signed up. What changed everything was the feeling that I didn’t understand what I was committing to anymore. The transparency was gone, and with it went my trust in the whole experience.
As both a mom and a business owner, that stuck with me.
Because the reality is, families aren’t just looking for affordable activities. We’re looking for clarity. We’re trying to plan, budget, and make good decisions for our kids without feeling like we’re going to get surprised at the last second. When pricing isn’t clear, it creates doubt. And once that doubt is there, it’s really hard to move forward with confidence.
That experience is exactly why we’ve made the decision to do things differently at Arizona Mobile Swim.
Our pricing is upfront. The price you see is the price you pay. We don’t add registration fees, we don’t tack on service fees at checkout, and we don’t surprise you with extra costs later on. Everything is built into our pricing from the start, because that’s what it actually costs to run a business.
And yes, we have those costs. Credit card processing, scheduling software, insurance, equipment, travel time. All of it is real. But instead of separating those out and presenting them as add-ons, we choose to be honest about our pricing from the beginning.
Because this isn’t just about numbers, it’s about trust.
A small fee here and there might not seem like a big deal in the moment, but over time, it adds friction. It makes people hesitate. It makes them question whether they’re getting the full story. And in my experience, that hesitation is what loses the sale, not the actual price.
Families come back when they feel respected. They refer their friends when they feel confident. They stick around when they know exactly what to expect.
That’s the kind of experience we’re trying to create.
When you book with us, you can plan with confidence. You know what you’re paying, you know what you’re getting, and you don’t have to worry about anything unexpected showing up at checkout.
Because you already have enough to think about.
Swim lessons shouldn’t come with fine print stress.
And honestly, neither should anything involving your kids.
